Paris is on my mind

I wanted to publish this post yesterday but I didn’t finish with my photo selection so I thought I’d do it the next day.But the world changed in the meantime.I woke up this morning and heard the terrible news about terrorists’ attacks in Paris. My thoughts are with people of Paris&France.

I’ve visited Paris a life-time ago. I was only 24  then, single and full of hope for my bright future. My best friend M. and I spent a wonderful week in the city of lights. Unlike with London I didn’t have any ideas about Paris and I didn’t expect much from this tourist trap. However, at the end of that week I was in love. With Paris, of course 🙂

We did all the usual stuff I guess:

1.. went on the Eiffel tower (what views! Only a handful of attractions offer equally breathtaking views)

2…strolled up&down Montmartre and imagined ourselves living in one of those small, cute houses.

3..admired the beauty of Notre-Dame

4. … took a boat ride along the Seine (it was a bit chilly but a great experience)

5. ..ran through Louvre and almost laughed at the size of Mona Lisa but thoroughly enjoyed the art in Musee d’Orsay

6. . did window-shopping down the Champs Elysees and saw Arc de Triomphe

7…browsed the books in Shakespeare& Company bookstore and explored the Left Bank

8…visited Versailles castle and its magnificent garden

9…were surprised by La Defense

10…viewed Paris from the top of the Grande Arche de la Defense

11… visited the Erotic museum (that was quite interesting!)

12…had drinks in Cafe de 2 Moulins from Amelie movie (love that movie and that actress!)

13…wandered around Ile St-Louis

14…looked for clues from Da Vinci Code book in St.Sulpice church

15…bought some French lingerie in Galeries Lafayette department store

16… ate pancakes and omelette, drank wine, had ice-cream, bought some chocolate

17…had very expensive cake at Fouquet’s

18…had drinks in Deux Magots like all those famous artists&writers

19…crossed several bridges like Pont Neuf and Pont Alexander III

20…sat at the fountain in front of Georges Pompidou Center

21…daydreamed at the square Place des Vosges

22…gawped at some serious bling at Place Vendome

23….passed by romantic Hotel de Ville building

24…bought too many Eiffel towers (key chains and models)

25. ..met some interesting guys

26. ..didn’t go to see the show at Moulin Rouge

27. ..saw Opera house Palais Garnier

28. ..looked for Place de la Bastille

29. ..took metro around the city

30. ..walked and walked till exhaustion point and then went out to dance all night long! Where has my youth gone?:)

Needless to say I enjoyed greatly my Paris week and I would definitely love to visit it again.

p.s. I thought twice about posting this today but I decided to do it because we need to be reminded that Paris is a beautiful city where people from all around the world live together. An act of pure madness must not destroy that!

I think it’s absolutely right that you went ahead and published this as Paris will (and has) continue to delight millions of people from all around the world and it’ll never be cowed by terrorists.   14. You’re right to post this, Tanja. Paris is sheer perfection and the most wonderful place to visit. we all need to be reminded how special it is. I took my son to Shakespeare & Co earlier this year – he fell in love and nearly moved in right there and then!
