My favourite bridges around Europe

During my travels around Europe I have come across many beautiful bridges. Some I just admired from the distance while I crossed the others. This year I even climbed the tower of the Tower Bridge in London and crossed the walkway high above the Thames. That was a great experience. Some bridges are old while others are ultra-modern. Most offer spectacular panoramas. While some just fulfill their purpose-connect two places.

  1. I’ve been on the bridges in Lisbon area, Venice, Paris and Prague that you pictured. I don’t know if I can pick a favorite bridge. There are so many great ones out there. The bridge I pictured in my post is Ponte Fabricio in Rome. It was one in a very quiet section of Rome that my husband and I visited during our honeymoon.

  5. Stirling Bridge!! A very important bridge in Scottish History. Love this post! My dad has instilled an appreciation for bridges in me from a young age, You should also check out the Forth bridge in Scotland! It’s a winner 🙂 #farawayfiles

  9. Love this post Tanja! All the bridges you have mentioned are beautiful and I also love the Ponte Vecchio in Florence but it was an ancient bridge outside Lucca in Tuscany that won my heart. The Ponte della Maddalena crosses the Serchio river near Bagni di Lucca and the reflections on the water are magnificent. Thanks for sharing on #FarawayFiles

  15. You can’t beat a beautiful Bridge! Of course I am biased and your number 1 is my favourite, but we were in Ljubljana yesterday and we saw the Three Bridges, and that was pretty lovely! 🙂 #farawayfiles

  17. I am a total bridge geek I spend ages looking at them whilst hubby rolls his eyes. The beauty of tower bridge blows my mind overtime I see it. Last year we did the London Bridge challenge with diabetes UK and had a wonderful day photographing bridges, thanks so much for linking up x

  20. Bridges in Europe are on another level. The Chain Bridge in Budapest and the Charles Bridge in Prague have to be my favorite. They bring such good memories. #MondayEscapes

  22. Love this post – such a fab idea!

    I like your choice of bridges.

    This year I am taking part in a UNESCO World Heritage challenge and so will say my favourite is the Forth Rail Bridge in Edinburgh – it is incredibly beautiful. Well worth a trip to North Queensferry to take a look.

  29. Liberty bridge in Budapest is nice, Charles Bridge of course – a little known bridge is the one in Bamberg (Germany) with the Rathous in the middle.

    I’d probably have to go with the Charles Bridge 😉

  32. Great photos! I always loved the small bridge at Middleham, on the winding road from Ripon north to Leyburn in N. Yorkshire–it’s only one lane wide and is very old, but re-fortified. We used to call it “the knight’s bridge” because it had such an old feel to it. Not grand like the bridges you’ve photographed, but we always felt a little like Robin Hood when we passed over it. (I’ve tried to paste a photo here, but it seems to be a no go.
