Life & blog update: January 2019

Lucca, Italy

Lucca in Italy, I’ll blog about it eventually

Life and blog update January 2019..Yes, It’s already 2019! I was in Tuscany for New Year’s but I probably won’t blog about it because that was a work trip and because there are already several Tuscany blog posts here on my blog (you can check posts about Florence here and here and about Pisa here if you want). If I look back at January actually nothing much has happened except from…. well, you’ll find all about it later on;)

My husband went on his skiing trip with his mates to Austria and my baby boy toddler and I had wild parties! Just kidding! My boy has grown so much recently. Probably, because he’s eating all the time! He seems to have an appetite of a wolf or a bear but he’s running everywhere all the time so he definitely spends all those calories. He likes playing with his Lego duplo toys too. Recently, my boy spent the night at his grandparent’s. And he was fine!

2018 on the Red Phone Box travels

San Marino

San Marino

2018 on the Red Phone Box travels was an interesting year. 2017 was a year that I got pregnant and didn’t really travel. In 2018 we travelled for the first time as a family with our baby boy. Nevertheless, there was a significant decrease in the number of proper travel posts but this is still a travel blog. Of course, my main focus was/is my baby boy V. who’s now 14 months old. He’s my excuse for the lack of motivation to write about my travels. However, my baby has already travelled a fair bit. I’m not an expat so there was really no need for long-haul flights to visit the family but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t want to travel with my baby. We just did it differently.

Life & blog update: December 2018

Belvedere Castle in Vienna; I was in Vienna on a work trip

Life and blog update December 2018: As usually on December 1 I opened my chocolate advent calendar. This year I got an expensive one from Lindt 🙂 Last year we celebrated first Christmas with our baby boy V. and took him to the Christmas markets for the first time. It was also quite easy to just put him under the Christmas tree and take Christmas photos. However, this year it was quite another thing to try to take photos of my baby boy wearing his elf costume..

Of course, we participated in several Christmas events in December. We went to the Christmas markets in Rijeka and to Trsat castle. The Christmas lights were really spectacular this year. My husband and I attended the New Year’s Concert at the National Theater. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a number of years and I finally ticked it off my bucket list this year!

Life & Blog update: November 2018

November. A year ago my son was born. And this November we celebrated his first birthday! And our first birthday of being the parents:) It was a low-key family celebration and most importantly our baby V. enjoyed himself very much. We attended another baby’s birthday this month and that was a lot of fun too. Also, we met for the first time a baby girl of my husband’s friend. So, it was a month of babies:)

As usually, there were a number of gaming nights (board games!) and outings with friends. I even managed to go to the cinema and saw the Fantastic Beasts 2. Loved it! For the first time in months my husband and I went on a date without the baby. There’s a new Irish pub in town and we love going there.

I don’t know about you but this year I’ve already done a part of my Christmas shopping. I’ve decided to treat myself with a Hallmark Christmas movies watching shirt (seriously!) and with a Quaintly & Co Christmas British Box which has already arrived and I still haven’t opened it (#notsponsored). So, you see Santa, I am good! Of course, I also purchased an Advent chocolate calendar. This year I got a really big luxurious Lindt chocolates advent calendar.

Life & blog update: October 2018

in Italy

October was a busy month. I slowly got used to going to work again after being at home during the pregnancy and during the maternity leave. I’ve also had another work trip to Italy which made me both anxious and happy. Since we couldn’t really go to Germany for Oktoberfest we found the next best thing and had a very delicious Oktoberfest meal at the newly opened German gastro pub in our area. What else? We’ve finally done professional photo shooting with our baby boy V. He was a bit afraid of the big flashing camera and held onto his toy dog as if his life depended on it. Poor thing! He was very serious too throughout the whole photo session and only managed to relax and smile for the camera in a few photos. Still, the photos are really beautiful and a great memory. Baby V. will be 1 year old in a couple of days. I can’t believe it!!!! He’s walking on his own at home for some time already. 🙂 We’ve also bought his first proper shoes. Very cute and very expensive! He’s also been to the dentist’s for the first time. He’s got six teeth. He didn’t cry at all. He’s such a brave boy. He’s never cried in new and unfamiliar situations or with strangers. I’m planning to write a new baby update post but I don’t know when I’ll actually write it.

What else happened in October? Well, my husband went to Germany for Spiel 18′ (International Game Fair) in Essen to pitch his new board game (it’s actually a card game). He’s a huge board games fan and we’ve got a massive board games collection at home. He’s invented a few games and finally decided to try and sell one of his games to the publishers.

Life & blog update: September 2018

Veliki Tabor Castle in Croatia

September. For me the real beginning of a year is the start of a school year, not the festive celebrations of January 1. And as usually, this September was yet again another new beginning for me. I’ve joined yoga classes. Painful is the word I’d use to describe everything I do during a yoga class but that’s because I’ve got a rubbish back. Unfortunately, no matter how cute babies are, it’s not easy to lift and carry a baby all the time. My boy is big and restless so holding him is like trying to close a can of wriggly worms. And no, I can’t relax and meditate at the end of my yoga class because all I can think when my yoga instructor says feel the love is pain. But that’s okay. I know yoga does me good.

I’ve started to work after maternity leave too (actually 2 moths earlier, you can take one year off here). It’s just two days in a week but it’s more than enough for me right now. I have no idea how other mothers work every day and take care of their children and cook and blog and do million other things. I guess I’ll learn. I’ve recently been to Italy because of my other job. That was the first time that I’ve been away from my baby boy. He survived. He had a lot of fun with his dad and his grandparents. He didn’t seem to have missed me at all. On the other hand, I worried too much and I didn’t sleep through the night as I’d hoped. I can’t believe my boy will be 1-year-old soon. He’s already taken a few steps on his own. He’ll be walking quite soon.

My blogging tips for first-time bloggers

letter box in San Marino, people used to write letters before about their adventures, now we blog about them:)

So you’re thinking about starting your own blog but you think you won’t be able to do it? Don’t worry, all it takes to start a blog is a few good ideas and some spare time. I launched my travel blog three years ago without any previous knowledge about blogging. I’ve been reading several travel & lifestyle blogs for a while and one day a thought came to my mind: Why don’t I start blogging about my travels too? I had no knowledge about website design or SEO or any other technical part of blogging but honestly you really don’t need those things when you’re just starting. You just need some free time to learn the basics of how to set up your blog. Of course, you’ll need to make several decisions at the beginning such as which blogging platform to choose, whether to go free or self-hosted, whether to buy your own domain or not…. But I won’t be talking about that here. If you need that kind of advice, look further. Here are tips that will help you to grow your blog once you’ve set it up.

My blogging tips for first-time bloggers

Blog about what interests you

You might be into fishing or boxing but for some reason you think that nobody would be interested to read about that so you decide to write about cats even if you don’t particularly like them, but hey  everybody wants to read about cats, right? Wrong! If you’re not interested in what you’re blogging about, whether that’s fishing or fashion or cats, your readers will soon feel that and won’t follow your blog. Write/blog about what interests you and you’ll soon find readers who are equally passionate about your topic as you are and they’ll follow your blog.

Be persistent

It takes time to get noticed and to gain readers and followers. Don’t worry, if you just focus on your writing and continue to hit that publish button you will get noticed. Don’t quit just because you’ve posted 10 posts and have no likes/comments yet. Continue to blog and follow the tips below and your blog will grow.
