Life & blog update: April 2025…. was a great month filled with family adventures, some local, some international. We saw alpacas, ran a kids’ race, spent Easter weekend in Slovenia, saw knight’s fight and much more. But let’s start at the beginning.
It was unusually warm for the beginning of April. We went to the beach to play but actually some people were already sunbathing and swimming despite the coldness of the sea. Kids opened the ice-cream season since we don’t allow them to eat ice-cream during winter.
Next weekend we visited an alpaca’s ranch No stress inland of Crikvenica (Croatia). Kids had lots of fun playing at the bouncy castle and feeding the animals. There were horses, rabbits, deer, some strange chickens and many other animals besides very cute looking alpacas. I was completely smitten by some huge, blue rabbits (the breed is called Vienna blue). I’ve never seen such rabbits before. You could pet them and they were softer than any plush teddy bear.
Like last year we all participated in the kids’ race in the city center. I think the kids were faster this year but I was slower. Kids got interesting goodie bags as a reward. My daughter also had her gymnastics tournament and it was so nice to see her do her thing. I was very proud of her.
We spent Easter weekend in Slovenia at a spa hotel. Kids really love spending all day long in the swimming pools. However, before the trip I searched the area for castles so we visited Velenje castle before checking in. It is a really beautiful castle which houses the city museum with some rather unusual artifacts. I definitely didn’t expect to see African art in the middle of Slovenia. A local explorer went on several African expeditions in the early 20th century thus the African galleries in that castle. We had a very relaxing Easter weekend in Slovenia.
Moreover, we had a couple of board game nights and managed to meet up with my best friends. Kids had another kid’s birthday to go to and we spent a fun afternoon at kid’s house. My son did the kids’ escape room challenge and my daughter participated in story telling event.
The last April weekend was reserved for the knight’s day at Trsat castle (Rijeka). There was a parade, reenactment of a historical battle, knights did sword fighting and kids had a choice of several workshops. Kids liked this event very much.
All in all, April was a fun month for us all. We really did a lot! Blog-wise, I shared some doors posts and a photo post from my recent Amsterdam trip. I really have to get rid of my blog’s backlog and write posts about our trips from 2023 and 2024 (Krakow, London, Budapest etc.).

Sounds like a month well spent 😊 It makes me feel a little better that you have a backlog of blogging topics. I do as well! My goal for May and the summer is to find the time to write and post more.

Yes, I don’t want them to get a sore throat. I get it if I have drinks with ice during winter, for example

Everyone in Finland eats so much ice cream during winter, my kids would never take mo for an answer!

Well, they eat plenty of other sweets so… here ice-cream is a summer thing!
