Life & blog update: July 2023

Padova, Italy, July 2023

Life & blog update: July 2023… was a hot month. The temperatures were over 30 °C for most of the month. There were also a few quite serious storms too. I can’t stand the heat anymore. It didn’t bother me when I was younger. But now, my legs swell a lot, I’m more easily agitated, I have headaches etc.

Anyway, we spent the last day of June and the first weekend of July in Padua (Italy) as I have already mentioned in my June post. It was a foodie/concert weekend trip with our friends and we had lots of fun. I’m glad that I got to spend more time with my best friend. I’m also very happy that my kids hanged out with her daughter too and that we all spent a great afternoon by the pool in Istria.

There were a few board game nights in July and a couple of girl’s nights out (read: drinks and talking, no parties for tired, working mums). We had organized some playdates for kids too.

Summer means that we spend practically every weekend at Krk island at the beach. Our kids are very fortunate, indeed. This year’s Ice-cream festival was much better than last year’s. Kids (and adults) had excellent entertainment in the form of acrobats and street performers with fire and different live music. Plus, there were more ice-cream stands.

My son has lost his first baby tooth! I didn’t expect this to happen before he started school (he still has one more year at daycare (preschool year) and then school at almost 7). Of course, he got money from the tooth fairy. He has become fearless in the sea this summer. He learnt how to swim without any swimming aids last year but this year he is jumping, diving a bit and swimming confidently far from the beach. My daughter has been riding her new pink unicorn bike for a couple of months now. She’s very agile and can climb on all sorts of equipment in kid’s parks. She’ll be four soon.

I’m slowly starting to publish travel posts from my travels from the past two years. I posted about our day trip to Cividale del Friuli and my German trip (both in 2021). So, now I need to write about Malta and more about London (2022) and then about this year’s trips to Krakow and Helsinki (until then you can find photo posts from these trips and a couple of food/door posts). Of course, there are also some family trips in Croatia and in Slovenia that still need to be blogged about.

How was your July? What are your plans for August?

  1. […] Last year my husband and I spent a weekend in Padua, Italy to attend Rammstein’s concert. It’s one of my husband’s favourite metal bands. Well, actually, my husband and my best friend’s husband went to the concert while my best friend and I enjoyed a few Aperol spritzs in the center of Padua. It was a fun weekend. My husband really enjoyed last year’s Rammstein concert so he decided to buy tickets for this year’s concert too. He chose a concert in Klagenfurt because he has some relatives there so that we can spend the night at their place. I’ve previously visited Klagenfurt so we decided to spend a few hours in the city center before going to the concert. I was more excited about our plans to visit Hochosterwitz castle the next day than to go to the concert, to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, I like Rammstein too but I’m just too old and grumpy to be standing in a crowd drinking an overpriced drink. The concert was all right, it had all the usual fire gimmicks this band is famous for. At some point during the concert it started to rain heavily. I got completely soaked but that made me feel alive and present in the moment. However, that sensation lasted only briefly because then I started to feel cold and grumpy again. We both really enjoyed visiting Hochosterwitz castle the next day. […]

  2. I’ve heard the heat wave in Europe this summer is no joke! I hope you’ve all been staying cool! Like you, I have a bunch of travel posts I need to write from my trips in the past year, so I feel you on that! Can’t wait to read about your adventures in due course!

  3. I’m not a fan of the intense heat either Tanja, although it’s not such a problem in England! Lots of local exploring for me this Summer, and some camping and a trip to London to come. Enjoy the rest of your Summer.

  4. It’s worrying to see how Southern and Eastern Europe are bracing for record breaking temperatures as a searing heatwave sets in and it’s crazy to see peaks of 44C on multiple days. But while Europe is struggling with extreme heat, in Ireland it barely goes above +14’C. Thanks for sharing and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  5. Tanja it really is too hot nowadays. I’m used to heat here in Singapore 30-33 on most days, but 34/35 plus high humidity, also gives me headaches and that very heavy feeling. Anyway those pictures are lovely. Thank you for sharing. 🙂 — Amor
