The View of London from One New Change is a travel blog post about my visit to a free roof terrace at One New Change in the heart of the City of London. If you love London and free things, then this post is for you.

There are many wonderful free views of London. Some of my favourites include the Sky garden and the Southbank. But I’ve added other places on my list of free London views over the years. So, I’ve finally decided to check out the view from One New Change on my last November’s trip to London. I wasn’t disappointed. I liked the panoramic views of St Paul’s cathedral and the City of London from One New Change roof terrace. And the best part was that it was absolutely free and there was no booking needed.

How to reach One New Change roof terrace

One New Change is a shopping mall just across the St. Paul’s cathedral. There are several underground stations nearby (such as St. Paul’s and Mansion house) as well as bus stops. You can even go up to the roof terrace when the shops in the shopping mall are closed. You enter the shopping mall and find the elevators and just take one up to the 6th floor. You’ll find Madison’s Restaurant and Bar at the roof terrace. You just walk freely through its terrace and you’ll find yourself at the free roof terrace of One New change. There is a security guard present. You are allowed to take photos but you can’t use a selfie stick.

The views from One New Change roof terrace

I visited One New Change roof terrace on a Sunday around 1 PM in November last year. There were only a few people at the terrace. It wasn’t cold or too windy. I actually took only a couple of photos there because I decided to just take in the views without the pressure of taking great photos (and the sun was right up in my eyes..).

I’ve visited St. Paul’s cathedral on my first ever visit to London in December 2006. I climbed up to the Dome Galleries. So, this time I got to look at St. Paul’s cathedral up close from One new Change roof terrace and see it’s magnificent dome from another angle. Besides St. Paul’s cathedral you can see other buildings of the City of London. You can even get a glimpse of the London Eye. Of course, you can see the Shard across and the Sky garden behind as well. The views aren’t as expansive as the views from the Sky garden because One new change isn’t as high as the Sky garden skyscraper. The highlight is definitely the view of St. Paul’s cathedral. To be honest, I found the views of the City of London from the Monument better but you have to climb up a lot of stairs and you have to pay for the entry to the Monument. All in all, I was satisfied with the free view from One New Change roof terrace.

Unfortunately, this free rooftop terrace at One New Change is currently closed because of some constructions work. But I hope it opens up again soon. In recent years, many newly built skyscrapers opened up viewing platforms for the general public. One of the newest is Horizon 22 on the 58th level of the 22 Bishopsgate tower, supposedly the Europe’s highest free viewing platform. However, this viewing platform still wasn’t opened during my London trip last November. I plan to check out the views from this newest platform as well on some other trip to London.

Have you been to One New Change roof terrace?
