Life & blog update: January 2024…was a very good month. We rang in New year with another couple who has kids similar in age to our kids. Kids had lots of fun together. We ate too much and despite the heavy rain we managed to get out in the garden for some kid’s fireworks at midnight.
I managed to read four and a half books this month. I know, it sounds unbelievable but it is true. I usually manage to read 9 or 10 books in a whole year! My hometown has a wonderful new public library. It’s huge and modern and so different from the old building where it used to be. I was so happy when perusing the books to borrow. I enrolled my son to a children’s library too. Since it is possible to borrow five books for a month, my son chose two and my daughter chose two books and I picked one for them both.
In other news, I’ve also taken up swimming again. I used to go to swimming pool regularly before I had kids. I get enough beach time in summer, but I used to really enjoy swimming as a form of exercise during the winter months.
There were board game nights as well. We did a fun murder mystery game with a topic of chocolate. Of course, I prepared some delicious cakes for this event.
Furthermore, I saw a couple of interesting travel shows. I haven’t watched any travel shows for years but now I had time and actually found some quite interesting ones. I watched a travel show about British coastline too and remembered my time in Suffolk all those years ago.
Kids had some playdates. This year the carnival season began earlier so we took our kids to masked dance. They enjoyed it a lot. They danced and ran around the venue like some excited puppies minus the tongues sticking out.
It snowed for a couple of hours in my seaside town. That’s very rare. However, a day before we all got a presidential alert on our smartphones about severe weather, lots of snowfall. I think that a lot of people got unnecessarily scared. After all, it is winter, it snows. No big news! We got this kind of alert previously when there was an earthquake, and that made sense but not this.
I posted 8 blog posts in January. I am very pleased that I had the time and energy to do it. The perks of being unemployed…what can I say. Though, I’ve sent out a number of job applications so we’ll see.
It wasn’t all roses and sunshine in January. A few days after new year’s my mum got admitted to hospital and had an emergency operation. She’s got a pacemaker now. She’s had a heart surgery previously but not this type. She’s all right now. Coincidentally, it was also January some years ago when she had a major stroke but she’s a survivor.
How was your January? Any exciting plans for February?

Hope your mother recovers well! That must have been scary.
Your January sounds calm and restful. I love the sound of your new library – I borrow electronically from ours

It was scary. I love that our new library even has a music room and a playstation room and 3D printer.

Sounds like an eventful January, but you got through it; I hope your mom’s doing better! Impressive you read four books in January; I’m trying to read more this year, so this is motivation! I’m surprised it snowed in your part of Croatia, but it must’ve been a winter wonderland! Wishing you a good February and even if it won’t be, at least it’s a short month! 😅 Take care of yourself and your family.
