Life & blog update: August 2024

Paradise beach, Rab island in Croatia

Life & blog update: August 2024… was a very busy month but we managed to go on a few short trips. Despite not having proper holidays we took a fun day trip to Rab island and we even had a 3 day holiday in a spa hotel in northern Croatia. Kids spent the rest of the month at island Krk with with their grandparents as usually (husband and I joined them whenever we could).

My daughter has learnt to swim in August! She turns 5 in September so I was very pleased that she managed to start swimming without anything this summer. My son has also learnt to swim before he turned five. This summer he has improved his diving and jumping skills.

Our kids have previously asked us to take them to a sandy beach. Last year we actually took them to a healing mud beach but this summer we managed to organize a day trip to Rab island and its famous sandy beach called Paradise beach. We took a ferry from Krk island to Rab island (without a car) and then we walked all the way from the ferry port to the beach. My kids are used to long walking but our friend’s daughter was quite exhausted after a whole day of splashing in the sea and playing in the sand, so my husband had to  carry her on our way back to the ferry. Kids enjoyed themselves a lot and and we adults also had a few peaceful moments. We also did another day trip to see some friends in a different seaside town.

The highlight of the month was our 3 day mini break at spa hotel Terme Sv. Martin in the countryside in the northernmost part of Croatia. We had a spacious family room, plenty of great food, a water park for kids as well as thermal water indoor pools. We also did a two hour excursion by a small tourist train to see a Watermill on Mura river and an apple orchard. We all had a great time at that short excursion.

August is a month of anniversaries for me. I have always thought that we would celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary in Portugal since we spent our honeymoon there but we even didn’t get to see each other this year on the actual anniversary day due to our conflicting  schedules. However, our spa holiday with kids was in a way our anniversary trip. We’ll make it to Portugal again some day.

My travel blog The Red Phone Box travels is 9 years old. Even though it seems to be more of an online diary lately I’m still proud of myself for keeping up with blogging. Interacting with other bloggers and like minded people is still one of my favourite parts of blogging. The other favourite thing is remembering my trips through writing about them.

How was your August? And what are your plans for September?

  1. Sounds like you had a fun month, Tanja. Congratulations on your wedding anniversary – reaching the milestone of a 10th anniversary is a remarkable achievement as it signifies a decade of love, trust, and shared experiences. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  2. Happy birthday to your blog. 9 is a significant anniversary. The Apollo program took 9 years from Kennedy stating he would put a man on the moon until Neal Armstrong took his steps. And the Statue of Liberty took 9 years until it stood in New York.

  3. Another busy month! It’s incredible just how fast your kids are growing up, but all the more reason to spend time with them and cherish the moments until they become adults! Sounds like some solid little trips in August, and now as the weather turns cooler, I hope you have some cozy months coming up. Here’s to a slower and calmer September!

  4. Congrats on all of this month’s milestones… your wedding anniversary, blog anniversary, and the kids learning how to swim! My husband was born and raised in Makarska so I know how special learning how to swim is for Croatian kiddos 😍 I can’t wait to go to Croatia next summer.
