Fortnum & Mason (Piccadilly location) is definitely my favourite London department store. The building itself is just gorgeous and it always has wonderful Christmas displays. I’ve visited Fortnum & Mason several times and I’ve always felt transported to another luxurious world whilst browsing its lovely chocolate & tea products at the ground floor and checking out all its other wonderful goods. I even bought my two beautiful hardcover travel journals there. It’s never too crowded and I’ve always felt welcomed. However, I’ve never had my afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason which is a shame.

About Fortnum & Mason

Fortnum & Mason was established in 1707 and since then it stands as a paragon of British luxury and refinement. The store began its journey as a humble grocery shop and has since evolved into a world-renowned department store. Originally serving the needs of the rich clientele of St. James’s, it quickly got a reputation for its quality and service, eventually earning the royal warrant as purveyors to the Crown. The store is renowned for its delicacies, including high-quality teas, fine wines, gourmet foods, and artisan chocolates.

Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason

Fortnum & Mason is also famous for its quintessential afternoon tea, served in the elegant Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon. This time-honored tradition offers a selection of finely brewed teas, accompanied by delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, and an array of delectable pastries. The ambiance exudes sophistication, making it the perfect setting for a leisurely afternoon indulgence.

Christmas Decorations

During the festive season, Fortnum & Mason transforms into a winter wonderland, adorned with exquisite Christmas decorations. The store’s windows are meticulously dressed with enchanting displays and showcase imaginative themes. Every year another festive theme is chosen. Inside, twinkling lights, charming ornaments and elegant wreaths create a magical Christmassy atmosphere. And there’s even a Christmas shop on the first floor.

Conclusion

Visiting Fortnum & Mason is always a delightful experience, and it feels like stepping into a world where tradition and elegance coexist beautifully. I look forward to my next visit, anticipating the charm that Fortnum & Mason consistently provides, making it a staple in my London adventures.

  1. Beautiful interior! I’ve never been to Fortnum & Mason before, but I have had its tea as a gift from a British friend a while ago. Looks like a worthwhile place to check out upon a return trip to London! Thanks for sharing, Tanja 🙂
