4 years ago I launched this travel blog The Red Phone Box Travels. I wanted to share my travel adventures with the world 😉I may not have travelled as much or as often as some other bloggers but I have loved everything about travel. My life has changed a lot in the past four years. After years of waiting for a baby I finally got pregnant in 2017 and gave birth to a healthy, beautiful boy. It was a challenge to continue blogging after becoming a mum. We have travelled with our son so far and this year we went to Berlin without him, our first trip alone after becoming parents. But our family is growing again. Our baby girl is due very, very soon. To blog and to travel with two children will surely be even more challenging. I don’t know yet if I’ll take a short or a long break from blogging or just write infrequently. Time will tell!

It’s been three years since I pressed publish on the very first post of The Red Phone Box travels. And here I am still blogging about my travels (and occasionally about my life & baby). THANK YOU for sticking around!:) Thank you for all your wonderful comments and likes and shares whether you’re following my blog via WordPress or as an email subscriber or if you’re following me on Bloglovin‘. Thank you also for following my blog on its social media channels Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+ . Cheers to you all!
What has happened in my third year of travel blogging? Well, a bit of travel and a whole lot of everything else!:) I was pregnant and then I gave birth and now I spend my days chasing after an adorable and already mischievous 9 and a half month old baby who crawls at the speed of light! But hey, I can’t complain!:) You can find a few baby posts on my blog but it is still very much a travel blog where I share stories from my past and current travels. Some of my posts are more personal while some are more informative but I enjoyed writing them all. Since we’ve become a family we went on several trips with our baby boy V. We visited a lot of places in Croatia but I haven’t blogged about that. I did blog about our first day trip abroad to Udine in Italy and I still need to finish all my posts about our amazing trip to wonderful but tiny San Marino.
I launched the Red Phone Box travels blog on 31st August 2015. I needed a distraction, a new hobby, a new audience for my travel stories. I am most grateful for all my followers and subscribers and new blogging friends. It was a wonderful experience to see my little travel blog grow over the past 2 years. I’m not an expat or someone who quit her/his job to travel the world. I’m just an ordinary person who is mad about travel and who despite somewhat limited resources manages to travel. Even if it’s just around Europe. Whether it’s a weekend break or one week holiday I always make the most of my trips. I try to cram in as much sightseeing as humanely possible and prefer to spend my money on attraction entrances and souvenirs than on fancy meals or luxurious hotels. I’d rather take two trips than stay at a really expensive place on just one trip. I prefer city travel to outdoor adventures even though as I grow old I find the countryside and the smaller towns more appealing. My travel history includes: backpacking trips, train journeys across half Europe, boat voyages that lasted over 30 hours and many other crazy things when I was slightly younger. Moreover I’ve stayed at cheap&dinky hostels but I’ve also experienced some luxury accommodation too. I travelled with my best friend, with a boyfriend, with a group of friends, with my husband and alone. Solo travel is great and I’d recommend it to everyone but I do find travelling with my best friend or my husband more fun. It’s always nicer when you can share your new experiences with someone else.
I’ve had a rough 2016 but still enjoyed immensely my trips to Stockholm and London and various other day trips and local trips. There weren’t a lot of travel plans for 2017 apart from a week in Germany visiting München and Neuschwanstein Castle. Those plans fell through and Germany is now still just another item on my bucket list. You see, we decided to cancel our travel plans because of my long-awaited pregnancy which finally happened. We couldn’t be more happier! Of course, we’ll need to focus now on the baby. But there are some travel ideas for the next year already on my mind! I want to travel as a family but I also want to travel just as a couple too. And there’ll be more work related travel once our baby turns 1. I didn’t quit blogging or had a break when I found out that I was pregnant. I continued to blog but I published more photo posts and shorter posts. There will definitely be a short blogging pause once I give birth (which could be within a month and a half ) but hopefully after a month or two I’ll have the time/energy to post something. I haven’t turned this blog into a baby/mummy blog and I won’t do that later on. It’ll still be a travel blog but I won’t be writing about any new trips for some time. However, there will be a couple of baby posts too :).
First of all a big THANK YOU to all who have stumbled upon my blog, who have read my posts, who have left a comment or liked something I wrote. I’m especially grateful to all of you who are following my blog here or on Facebook, Twitter, Bloglovin’and Google+ (yes, I just recently opened a Google+ account).
How it all started
My blog will be 1 year old this Wednesday! I am not computer savvy or in any way knowledgeable about blogging. So why did I start this travel blog of mine a year ago? There were a few good reasons. I needed a distraction from my everyday life and I needed something to occupy my mind so that I don’t think all the time about one wish that can’t be fulfilled that easily. And I needed a new audience for my travel stories because I felt that my friends were getting bored of my travel escapades that couldn’t match their baby stories.Or at least I felt that way.
I’ve been reading several blogs at the time and after a while I got a nagging idea in my head that maybe I could write about my travels too. When I set up my blog I didn’t tell a soul about it. After a month or so I told my best friend and then my husband. After a few more months I told my other two closest friends and recently I mentioned it to a few more people but I haven’t really shared it much among my friends. I feel more comfortable knowing that strangers read and judge me than my friends. I know that’s odd but that’s how I feel.
About this travel blog
I have always been crazy about London and the UK so I wanted to show that in my blog’s name. For me the red telephone box is one of the most famous British icons so I chose it as my blog name. Of course, this blog just had to be written in English. It never even occurred to me that I could write in my own native language:Croatian. I wanted to write about my numerous visits to London and my other travels around Europe which I did. Also, I was lucky enough to have spent a few months in England on a work visa 8 years ago. However, I still haven’t written much about the places that I’ve visited in England ( I did write about Scotland).
Most of my blog posts are personal travel stories while some can be considered as guides. If any of my travel posts inspired you to visit a certain place or gave you some new or valuable information that’s great. If I haven’t accomplished that, that’s also fine, because this is my own space and I write for my own selfish pleasure.
My first blog post was about my love for London. After a few months I received a lot of blog love from fellow travel bloggers. I was nominated for The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers, Liebster Award and The Sunshine Blogger Award. I was very delighted when I received them. Once again I want to thank all the nice bloggers for my nominations 🙂
My most popular blog posts in 2015 were: BRUSSELS (April 2015), Exploring Belém-Lisbon (Sep 2014), My favourite things about travel (Travel Link Up), The festive season in Nice (France), A cat & Christmas
