I’m writing this post in response to November Travel Linkup by my favourite Kiwi bloggers Kelly Michelle and Emma. I’ve been reading their blogs for a long time and I just love them.
So what are my favourite things about travel?
- Planning a new trip
This can even sometimes be better than taking the actual trip :). I don’t mind spending days online in search of a cheap air fare and a decent hotel. I’m still old-fashioned and I prefer reading actual guide books to perusing Pinterest. Of course I read travel advice on what to do and see on TripAdvisor too and I always review hotels/attractions/restaurants there after I get back from my trips.
- Anticipation
That sweet feeling of waiting for your trip. The crossing off the days on your calendar as your trip approaches and that period of daydreaming about your future adventures.
- Flying
I love being on the plane. I especially like that thrill when the plane takes off and that sense of relief when it lands. I am fortunate enough to have never experienced any turbulence or problems because I’m not sure how my tummy would handle that. It would not look pretty I can tell you that 🙂
- Airport shops
I just love spending time at airport shops before checking in.
- Seeing something in real life that you’ve only seen in the books
Whether it’s St.Peter’s Basilica in Vatican or the Eiffel Tower in Paris or Stonehenge I just love seeing some of the most iconic landmarks in real life. The same goes for art and museums whether it’s the small painting of Mona Lisa in Louvre or the Parthenon in Athens or the British Museum in London.
- Making new friends
During my university years I travelled quite a lot and I’ve met some great friends. I’m still in touch with some of them but with others unfortunately I lost all contact. There were even some crushes and love interests on my trips 🙂 And a broken heart too. I found it too easy sometimes to fall in love on a trip. But hey, now I’m a serious married woman 🙂
- Souvenir buying
I have sometimes even fasted on my trips because I spent my lunch money on buying unnecessary but adorable trinkets. I did a lot of budget travelling during my uni years and now I still don’t want to spend too much money on a hotel. I rarely choose luxury on one trip over the possibility of taking two trips if I don’t overspend for the hotel.
- Looking at photos after the trip
I still develop a few of photos from my trips because I love seeing them in my hands and not just on-screen. The photos are the best reminders of the great times that I have when I travel.
- Writing down my memories in my travel journal
Sometimes months pass by before I get the time to write my travel adventures in my travel journal. But I always take my travel notes pad with me so that I can jot down the things I’ve seen and the things I’ve done.
- London
I’ve been in love with London even before I visited it for the first time. After numerous trips it still has a special hold over me. Sadly, it’s been two years since my last visit. But there are plans for London trip in 2016. We shall see 🙂 !

- England
It’s my favourite country in the world 🙂
I want to share with you my other favourite things that are not necessarily travel related:
Spending time with my husband, Cuddling with my cat, Reading books, Dancing, Having dinner with my friends, Christmas decorations, Beach time, Red skirt/dress/shoes, Walking in the nature, Eating cakes in a fancy cake shop, Baking cakes, Sunny days, Watching good movies in the cinema…..

This is a great list! I love that you are now a “serious married woman”. 😉 lol.I have to say 1,2,3, and 8 are my favorite things about travel. I’ve never really made new friends while traveling, but I’d totally be up for it. 🙂

I definitely agree with this list! There’s something just so exciting about the ‘before’ stage of a holiday: buying the guide books, airports, duty free, the view of the planes outside, the build up to the flight…It’s all part of the build up to a new adventure! 🙂

I love the planning of a trip, too. There’s such excitement in deciding where to go, where to stay and how much it’s going to cost. But there’s nothing like the trip itself!

I love having tons of pictures to look through from my travels! I tend to collect things like napkins, brochures, business cards, and ticket stubs so that when I get home, I can put it all into making a scrapbook. It’s another one of my favorite hobbies and such a perfect way to remember!

I collect similar stuff too, brochures, tickets, etc. but I just keep them in a box, I don’t make a scrapbook.

The best thing about the airport shops are the giant toblerones! They’ve gotten me through some tough journeys XD
