Bloganuary is a fun writing challenge by WordPress. There was a writing prompt for each day of January. However, I didn’t join because I just didn’t have time. But inspired by Wayne’s replies I decided to choose a couple of previous bloganuary prompts and write my short replies in a single blog post.
So, starting from today’s prompt to the earliest ones, here are my replies to Bloguanary prompts:
What language do you wish you could speak?
My mother tongue is Croatian. I can also understand and speak Bosnian and Serbian because those languages are very similar to Croatian. I am fluent in English. I speak a bit of Italian and some French. And I used to learn German too. I wish I could be fluent in French or in Italian like I am in English but English was always more dominant in my surroundings (TV, music, Internet). But I wish my mother had taught me Hungarian.
What was your dream job as a child?
When I was a child I wanted to be a ballet dancer. I did join ballet school and danced for years but I quit when I was 12 or 13. My other wish was to become an archaeologist and to travel the world to uncover different mysteries from ancient history. Journalism or writing were also appealing professions.
Who is your favourite author and why?
I don’t have one favorite author. Actually, my favorite authors wrote the books I read in my childhood. I loved the Famous Five book series by Enid Blyton. I also devoured a lot of books by Agatha Christie. I loved Tolkien’s books too and of course Harry Potter books by J.K.Rowling were just wonderful.
What is your preferred mode of travel?
I love flying. But I had some epic train trips in my youth and I really like the freedom of train travel so I’d say that my preferred mode of travel is by train. I like London tube too.
If you had a billion US dollars, how would you spend it?
This is too easy. I’d share it with my family, set up a college fund for kids so that they can go to university abroad, donate to charity.. and quit my job and go on a year long trip around the world. 🙂
To save my memories, to feel better, to communicate with others…
Chocolate, dancing, travelling, Christmas lights and Christmas tree, a good book…..

What a fun post! I also loved the Enid Blyton books when I was a child, and train travel is by far my favourite way of travelling!

Glad to learn about you a bit more! It’s already very impressive that you speak and understand so many languages: here in the US, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who speaks more than just English! I do my best to keep up my Chinese and French, but I admit, it can be hard when out of practice…glad you participated in this writing prompt: they help to keep you motivated to blog!

Thanks. Well, when you live in a small tourist country you need to know other languages. I hope you get to use your French soon, maybe some trip this year?

I didn’t remember your mother is Hungarian! Apparently Hungarian is related to the Finnish language but I once knew a half Hungarian girl and we tested the theory: neither of us could find any similarities. Maybe it’s in the pronounciation or something?
And I loved Enid B. and Agatha C. too and I also wanted to be a ballet dancer as a child! 🤩 We are almost twins!
