This week I’m sharing with you some old, beautiful doors from the city center of Rijeka, Croatia. Most of these buildings are from the end of 19th century. I think the first door pictured above might be from the beginning of 20th century. Rijeka is Croatia’s main seaport and a city known for its International Carnival parade. Rijeka used to be quite an industrial city but that changed. Rijeka was even one of European capitals of culture for 2020. Now, it’s being rediscovered by tourists.
Tell me which is your favourite door in the comments below.

I’ll share more doors from Rijeka later this year:)

Why don’t they make doors like this anymore?! Lovely ☺️

I was thinking of them when I walked by. Many super nice blue ones. But I don’t think I took photos. I seem to have lots of cafe photos for some reason 🤔🫢

What a nice collection! Interesting that in so many of them the glass is fronted by a protective metal decoration.

Hi, Tanja. That fourth door is extraordinary. It’s a shame about all the graffiti though, in the various photos. Hugs.

My favourite door is number four, although I think it would look even better painted a slightly lighter colour?

These are all lovely, but that 4th door, with the high transom and the balcony – oh yeah, I’d like to come home (or to work) to that door.

These are all beautiful doors, Tanja and they can be such wonderful photo subjects. I find that colourful doors are a photographer’s best friend. They can add a pop of colour on a drab day, frame your subject beautifully or be used as a storytelling element to draw the viewer in. They can be symbolic, iconic or just pretty. Colourful doors can add dimension, line and scale to your frame. Or, they can stand alone as fun subjects to photograph on your travels or in your own neighbourhood. Thanks for sharing and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
