Shh, listen carefully! I have a confession to make. The only reason why I went to Peggy Porschen is Instagram! But I couldn’t help myself. You see, those exquisite expensive cupcakes kept popping up on my feed so I promised myself that I’ll eat one of those pretty cupcakes the next time I’m in London. I may not fulfill all my promises but last November I travelled to London after a long time and I went to Peggy Porschen in Chelsea. So, if you want to find out about my experience at Peggy Porschen, read on.

It was Monday and I took a bus to Chelsea. I usually walk around London or take the tube but this time I got on the red double-decker bus and positioned myself upstairs at the big front window. This bus ride was like a dirt cheap sightseeing tour around London. I got off the bus a bit earlier and walked down King’s Road towards the famous, beautifully ornate front door of Peggy Porschen cupcake shop. I was not disappointed. I loved the front door flower decorations. I stepped inside and found myself surrounded with sweet fragrances and lots of gorgeous cupcakes. Food shouldn’t look so divine because I felt almost like a criminal for wanting to eat one of those cupcakes.

I didn’t have a reservation and all the tables seemed full. The waitress approached me and asked me about my booking. While I was chatting to her I noticed that some patrons might be ready to leave soon so I waited for about 10 or 15 minutes and there was a free table for me. Finally, I had a place in a chocoholic’s heaven. It was around 2 or 3 PM, I can’t recall correctly anymore. I spent the morning in Kingston upon Thames and I didn’t have any lunch yet so I first ordered a pumpkin soup. It was a good soup but not as good as the one I had the previous day at a pub. The pumpkin soup was served with a bread stick with some edible flowers. That was a surprise. After I ate my soup, I took some photos of the pink, girlie interior and the cupcakes display. Downstairs was an empty room, I guess for birthday parties. The powder room looked pretty too.

Even though it was just November, London was already lit by Christmas lights and the menu at Peggy Porschen was definitely Christmassy. I was ready to order my expensive cupcake (it cost 8 or 9 £). Naturally, I chose jolly gingerbread man cupcake but because I was greedy, I ordered some hot chocolate with ginger too. My cupcake was gorgeous. It was very delicious. However, the buttercream was too sweet. Its calorie count is definitely not for the faint-hearted. Nevertheless, I loved it. The hot chocolate with ginger was excellent as well and I loved the biscuit gingerbread man too. I could have had more of those (biscuits not cupcakes, even for my sweet tooth one cupcake is enough these days).

All in all, I spent a pleasant hour or so in Peggy Porschen and it definitely lived up to its hype. My cupcake was delicious but is it worth the price? That’s a difficult question. London has become ridiculously expensive but I’d reckon that if you want an Instagrammable experience with delicious cupcakes as a special treat you can’t really miss with Peggy Porschen. So, I’d definitely recommend visiting Peggy Porschen for their cupcakes.

  3. PP has been on my list for ages, but I’ve not made it yet. Your post makes me want to go nearer Christmas. I love all the festive drinks and cakes. Such a pretty place!

  9. I’ve found that Instagrammable places like Peggy Porschen are, while very pretty and aesthetic, often have mediocre food. All the same, it was a dream come true for you to finally go and try their beautifully-crafted cupcakes! Also super fortunate you got in without a reservation!
