Life & blog update: January 2022 was a month of home renovation (again!). We got a new kitchen at the end of the summer but we’d planned to buy new furniture for the living room too. I’d been looking at different cupboards and bookcases from IKEA and other stores for almost two years but nothing screamed at me buy me, I’d look great in your living room.
At the beginning of January we went to check out a new furniture store and saw some very comfortable sofas. So, we decided to get new sofas and the rest of the furniture would have to wait (again). However, then when we were about to buy the new sofas we unexpectedly came across a beautiful TV stand/cabinets/chest set. Even though it was completely different from everything I thought I’d wanted something just clicked between my husband and me and that furniture so we bought it without a second thought (it helped that it was on sale, too 🙂 ). I often think that too many choices is too many choices and that you should get the first thing you like without necessarily spending a lot of time contemplating all possible options in a vain search for a better price/value/look. And you know what, we made the perfect decision. Our living room is finally beautiful as it should be. We will probably also buy another bookcase and then our living room will be complete.
I didn’t mean to write such a long paragraph about our home renovation but there it is. January was actually a boring month in comparison to cheerful December but we still had a lot of fun. We had a board game party with our gaming friends. I got to see my girlfriends twice and they shared some very exciting news with me. I am so happy for them.
We went sledding with our kids. There is a small ski resort near our hometown so we spend a whole day there. The kids built a snowman, had a snowball fight and thoroughly enjoyed sledding. The day exceeded all my expectations. After all, this was the first proper snow day for my 2 year old daughter. We all enjoyed ourselves. But then our kids had to self-isolate because someone from their daycare got covid-19. One kid (or a teacher ) has covid and they send an entire group home and not a single kid got ever sick after being sent home. I am sick and tired of keeping healthy kids at home.
We are potty training our daughter. Not the best time of the year for that but she’s been ready for some time already so we decided to give it a go. She’s two years and five months old. Our son was a bit older when he learned how to use the potty. Our daughter is doing really well. I am very proud of her.
I blogged about my day trip in the Netherlands from November. I hope to blog about the rest of my last year’s Germany trip soon as well as about our other family day trips from 2021.

I wish I was one of your kids. Sledding and making snowman – wow I still enjoy doing that – not that I get much of a chance in Australia – and well home renos are always lots of fun for the Mums.

Home renovation may not sound exciting to you, but I can assure you that many people love it! Especially here in the US, we have TV channels and shows dedicated to DIY home renovation, and the results are insane! Interior design is particularly a big deal here!

I have actually watched those shows too and found it interesting.however,to live in a mess while renovation is being done, not so cool.I found it very stressful when we ripped apart our kitchen and installed the new one.

Lovely read, Tanja. I’m a similar shopper: buy it when you see it!

that’s the hard part about home renovating is you get pulled into other ideas to go with your original plan. We’ve been working on our house so reading your post I just kept nodding because that is exactly how it has been for us 🙂 Great picture of the sledding trip with your kids.

So nice to read your January round up Tanja. Your children must really love sledging and playing in the snow and look warm and snug in their snowsuits.
