Life & blog update: August 2022… was a good month. I had short holidays in August plus a long weekend so we used that time for more beach time. However, August made me tired and wishing for autumn and cooler weather.
We spent a long weekend in a small seaside village in Dalmatia (south Croatia) at the beginning of the month. My husband and I used to go there every summer but this was our kids’ first visit. I was a bit anxious before the trip because of the long drive on the winding roads and the scorching heat. In the end kids had a lot of fun and everything actually turned better than I had expected. There was even a village party. We went there but obviously could not stay until wee hours like most locals. Since the party was near our house I didn’t sleep at all and felt very tired the next day and the following day at work. Before we went home we stopped by at another friend’s house to have lunch.
We didn’t travel anywhere for our actual holiday week but stayed at Krk island where we spend every weekend during the summer. But we still got to see two new places with our kids. We explored a castle in Kraljevica on our way to Krk island and later we spent a day at the swimming pool in one of the most beautiful camping sites on the whole island. My husband and I even had Aperol spritz while in the swimming pool with Latin music on in the background. For a moment, it felt like we were actually on a holiday but then kids called us back to reality. 😉 Anyway, we got bunk beds for the kids. They love it.
Whole summer was very hot, one heat wave after another. I had headaches, trouble sleeping, swollen legs etc. 2 weeks of holidays at the beach and then going back to your cold country sounds perfect but working whole summer during one heat weave after another isn’t so much fun. I wouldn’t like to live in the tropical regions where it is hot all the time.
At the end of the month we explored another abandoned castle in ruins with the kids (Severin Na Kupi) and hiked in a beautiful Kamačnik gorge all the way to the river source. We walked for over 3.5 hours. I’m so proud of both of my kids for walking all the way and not complaining about anything. The trail was narrow and muddy and slippery for most of the hike so it wasn’t easy. I hope to blog about it eventually.

My wedding anniversary is at the end of August. We’ve been married for 8 years but we are together for longer than that. We’ve shared a lot of wonderful moments together and some not so great too. Coincidentally, my blogging anniversary is also at the end of this month. I’ve been blogging for 7 years and I still share my travel adventures with you. Thank you for following my blog. 🙂

I’m with you on the heatwave, Tanja. It’s not much fun, especially not when you have to do all the normal life stuff! Love that picture of you and the phone box, very beautiful and very ‘on brand’ for your blog.

Oh my goodness, if only I could get my hands on one of those abandoned castles. No such luck here. Heat all year and no castles. Just another reason to love your part of the world.
P.s. Glad you got to enjoy an Aperol Spritz. As a child I loved bunk beds too.

Happy anniversary and “blogiversary”! Spending the holidays nearby and chilling at the weekend seems like the perfect way to spend your holidays, and judging by your pictures you surely saw lots of gorgeous places!
The heatwaves in Southern Europe were really really bad and I truly hope this is not the situation we’ll have to deal with for the years to come… Anyway, I hope you have a great month of September!

What a wonderful August spent close to home! That first photo of Kamačnik gorge is STUNNING: I’ve since add it to my travel list! There’s also a heat wave here in California, so the last of the hot summer is everywhere. Wishing you a wonderful (and cooler) September!
