4 of the best travel destinations for young families

Planning a holiday with children can be daunting. You need to keep them entertained and travel without trouble. Your destination needs to be safe, and there are so many things to take with you!

Here are four of the best places to travel as a young family. Could one of these be your next holiday destination?

  1. Paris

It’s every parent’s dream to take their child to a Disney theme park.

The Magic Kingdom park in Orlando, Florida, is the most popular theme park of all. In fact, almost 21 million people walked through the Disney World gates in 2018 alone. But the trip to Florida is a long one. A flight from Heathrow to Orlando takes more than eight hours, and the Orlando heat can also be difficult for babies and toddlers to cope with.

For young families, Disneyland Paris may be the preferred option. It’s a great place to visit with children, for all of the Disney magic on a smaller (and milder) scale. You can travel by car, which is ideal if you need to pack all of your family essentials, and can even go for just a short break or weekend away.

The wider city of Paris has so much to offer for grown-up visitors, too. Don’t miss landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, or a cruise on the Seine.

  1. Majorca

For a sun, sea and sand holiday, Majorca is highly recommended. Particularly Puerto Pollensa, which is a very family-friendly resort.

Older children can enjoy family fun at Golf Fantasia, while the whole family can enjoy hotel swimming pools or sandcastle-building on the beach.

Spanish culture is refreshingly child-friendly, with children welcomed everywhere. It’s not a rare sight to see young families in museums, the finest restaurants and other places that you wouldn’t dare to take your little ones in England!

Some people worry about drinking tap water in Spain, though these concerns are unfounded. Today, Spanish tap water is completely safe to drink, though it may taste quite different from what you’re used to. The difference in flavour is due to slightly higher levels of chlorine. Boiling tap water is fine for preparing formula if you have a formula-fed infant. Some bottled water can have high levels of sodium, but if you do want to use bottled water then Font Vella is a popular option.

  1. Austria

In Austria, the whole family can enjoy the fresh air and lush green scenery. If you want to enjoy tranquil hikes and breathtaking mountain views, don’t be put off by the idea of travelling with tots.

Austria lacks the commercial attractions aimed at families, like brightly-coloured interactive museums and bustling family theme parks. As a result, it’s perfect for an escape from all of the traditional ‘kid stuff’. Instead, enjoy lakeside relaxation and beautiful architecture.

Many young families opt to enjoy a ‘farm stay’. Agritourism is popular in Austria, which means that many working farms open their doors to holidaymakers. Young children are welcomed to roam the farms, meeting the animals and perhaps enjoying a pony ride or two.

  1. The UK

You don’t have to travel abroad to enjoy the best family holidays. There are so many wonderful attractions and places to visit right here in the UK.

A UK holiday is easy to plan. There’s no need to prepare a passport photo for a grumbling infant or worry about hand luggage allowances.

You can drive to your destination, you know what you’ll find in local supermarkets, and you can book a holiday cottage with plenty of space for the kids. Alternatively, staying in the UK means that you have a choice of all other types of accommodation including caravans, campsites, hotels, B&Bs and even little woodland hobbit holes!

Is your young family growing?

Travelling whilst pregnant brings with it some unique considerations. You must be careful about what you eat, what you drink and your physical activity levels. An Austrian farm stay may not be the best option for pregnant travellers who must be careful around certain animals, whilst relaxing on a Spanish beach could be a much healthier option.

Being pregnant won’t stop you from enjoying a holiday with your young family, but following certain safety precautions for pregnant travellers will keep any risk to a minimum.

  1. Yes. Thank you! Our own small island is often over looked as a great place to explore! The rich cost line, the high moutains, the deep woodlands, the vibrant cities, showing children the fun in the UK is always going to be enjoyable
