12 Photos to inspire You to visit Split

Split is a beautiful, lively, seaside city. It is the second largest Croatian city. Split was founded by the Greeks but later became the home of the Roman emperor Diocletian who built himself a magnificent palace in AD 305. Split’s Old Town also includes the Diocletian’s Palace which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can reach popular islands Brač, Hvar and Korčula by ferries from Split.

I’ve visited Split a couple of times in the past. But it was always during the summer when it was crowded with the tourists. However, this year I got to experience Split in a completely different way. I spent two weeks in Split at the end of February/beginning of March (2021). It wasn’t a leisure trip. I was there on a work training. I had the privilege of living in an apartment within the Diocletian’s palace, just a few meters from Peristil square. I didn’t have a lot of free time on my hands. Nevertheless, I used wisely my free time and explored the historical city center and took lots of photos. I had some delicious cakes and summery ice-creams too. It was a tough task to choose just 12 photos for this post.

  1. I visited Split in May 2018 and many of your photos remind me of the adventures I had there, including visiting Diocletian’s palace and climbing the bell tower for the views. I may or may not have partook in the clubbing experience, as well as tried the pašticada dish…I have nothing but good memories of Split, and I thank you for sharing your time there!

  2. I already knew I wanted to visit Split so your photos haven’t so much inspired me as reinforced a wish that was already there! Great shots of both architecture and ice cream – what’s not to like?!!
