My Christmas Markets mugs: Stephansplatz, Vienna

my mug from the Christmas market around St. Stephen’s cathedral

Last year I started a new Christmas blog posts series about my Christmas markets mugs. I bought my first ever Christmas market mug at Belvedere palace Christmas market in Vienna in 2005. Little did I know that 10 years later I’d be visiting Vienna regularly during festive season because of my previous job. Of course, I couldn’t resist but to buy some new Christmas markets mugs.

My Christmas Markets Mugs: Stephansplatz, Vienna

This beautiful boot mug is from Christmas market at Stephansplatz (the square of St. Stephen’s cathedral). It’s in the very heart of Vienna. St. Stephen’s cathedral is gorgeous and my recommendation is to climb its taller tower for some superb views of Vienna. This Christmas market is smaller than some others e.g. the Christmas market at the Town Hall but it has a wonderful location and exquisite products. I had a very delicious hot chocolate in this mug. There are also horse carriages around the cathedral so you can go on a ride if you’ve had too much mulled wine and can’t walk back to your hotel. Also, locals and tourist like to ring in New Year at this square with a waltz at midnight.

Have you ever been to Christmas markets in Vienna? Which one is your favourite? Do you also collect Christmas markets mugs?

  1. Such a cute one! Though I guess it must be a bit difficult to clean! I love the Christmas markets in Vienna and I bought a mug from one of them some years ago. I am currently on my way there and one of my plans is to find another cute mug to bring home!

  2. The first time I went to a Xmas Market was to Cologne with 5 pals – I think we all ended up with 5 different mugs each!! I’ve been to a few markets since – the last being Bremen last year – and I’d definitely always buy one….
