Life & blog update: May 2023

Veli Brijun, Brijuni islands national park, Croatia

Life & blog update: May 2023...was a very good month. We’ve travelled again but more about that below. There were also a couple of kid’s birthday parties and other outings. The end of the month was sad but things are looking up for our beloved cat.

The highlight of May was our family weekend trip to Brijuni islands national park. We visited it last year for the first time and we all liked it so much that we decided then to go again if the hotel offers the same great deal next year too. This year our friends joined us too. We had perfect weather despite the rain and fog in our hometown. Like last year we rented an electric golf car to explore the island. What did we see this year? Loads! Byzantine castrum, remains of an early Christian church, fortified Bronze Age settlement and a beautiful viewpoint. We have also chatted again with Koki and showed our friends dinosaurs’ footprints. We were lucky to have seen lots of wildlife roaming around freely (deer, mouflons, rabbits, peacocks).

Have you watched Eurovision song contest? We had a great act this year. A renowned rock band made a proper show with their catchy song. They received a lot of votes from public but hardly any from the jury so Croatia ended up in the 13th place. ŠČ!

Our cat got hurt. He was away from our home for two days and then we found him practically at our doorstep with an injured leg. The vet said he had an injured pelvis. He just lied for days and he received a lot of antibiotics. Our cat was supposed to be checked with X-ray but in the end the vet said that he was too old (10 years) because he might not wake up from anesthesia. Luckily, he is actually already walking. However, he needs to be checked up in 2 weeks. When he sits, he looks odd, there’s definitely something wrong with his pelvis or hip but he is walking.

I don’t know about you but I definitely felt spring tiredness this year. Moreover, I definitely feel my age as well. It’s a bit annoying to be cranky and tired and have backache and all sorts of minor health issues.

How was your May? Did you travel anywhere? I’m looking forward to my solo trip to Helsinki in a few days.

  1. That national park sounds amazing! I’m sorry about your cat, wishing him a speedy recovery! I definitely feel that tiredness. But according to my great aunt who is 90- 80 is the new 30 and you should always measure your age like that 🙂

  2. Sorry to hear about your cat’s injury, hope he continues to recover and gets well soon! The Eurovision Song Contest was great this year. I went to Liverpool to watch it with one of my friends (although we weren’t in the arena). There were so many strong acts, it was really hard to choose a favourite!

      1. It was fantastic! There was an amazing atmosphere, everyone was really friendly and the city made a huge effort to recognise Ukraine (they even painted the street furniture in the colours of the Ukrainian flag).

  3. Sounds like a fun (and better) May! It’s unfortunate your cat was hurt, but it appears that he’s making good recovery! I’m younger than you, but I already feel the effects of aging; I’m wiped at the end of the day, and I’m ready to head to bed by 21h30-22h00! Cheers to a wonderful start of summer, and hopefully more adventures ahead!

    1. Thanks Rebecca. Both April and May were great. And our cat is walking and wants to go out again. Oh, my kids usually fall asleep around 9,sometimes not until 10 pm so I rarely go to sleep before 11pm. Hope you have a lovely June!

  4. The return trip to the islands looked great Tanya and it’s good to know your cat is getting better and hopefully on the road to a full recovery. Coincidentally, I pulled a muscle in my lower back a couple of weeks ago which was very painful. as I’d not experienced back pain before. Gladly now I’m fully recovered but I know how you must have felt, it was so painful I could hardly move or sleep. Thinking of your visit to my beloved Finland. Hope you’re having the best of times. M xx
