My Christmas Markets Mugs: Düsseldorf, Germany
First of all, I didn’t buy this mug at a Christmas market but it still is a Christmas market mug. I bought it at the beginning of November two years ago when I visited my best friend in Düsseldorf. We went on a Ferris wheel ride and there at the same square (Burgplatz) were food and drink stands. I noticed that one stand had red mugs with a Santa Claus on it. You could drink mulled wine from it or some other drink.
Even though it was just the beginning of November some shops in the town already had Christmas decorations which clashed with spiders and skulls and other Halloween decorations that other shops had. Anyway, I didn’t feel like having drink then but I returned to Burgplatz square with the Ferris wheel and bought this red mug as a souvenir before I went home. My friend saw this red mug later during proper Christmas season. So, you see, it is after all a Christmas market mug.
I use all my Christmas markets mug during the festive season. I usually drink tea from them but sometimes I make myself a hot chocolate or a mulled wine.

Have you been to Düsseldorf? You can watch a video about its Christmas markets here. Christmas markets in Düsseldorf open this year on November 23 and last until December 30.
Do you also collect Christmas markets mugs?

I too collect Christmas Mugs from markets and they come out in December and we use them all through the festive season. We think about the trips and anecdotes of the trip. Such a enjoyable read Tanja !!

That’s a great mug Tanja! I have been to Düsseldorf and loved it but never been for the Christmas markets. I would love to be anywhere in Germany for the Christmas markets, they do them well.

Hi, Tania – I love your Christmas Market Mug. I have been to Düsseldorf but sadly not to their Christmas Markets. I do have other Christmas mugs that I use throughout December. And, I have a nutcracker figurine very similar to yours. I can’t believe it is becoming that time of year already! 😀
