My 10 years of travel blogging

Life & blog update: March 2025
in Delft, March 2025

Happy 10th birthday to my travel blog The Red Phone Box travels!

I’ve been blogging for more than 10 years. I’ve always loved travelling and at some point ten years ago I decided to share my travels with the world, with other like-minded people. Since August 2015 I published 558 blog posts. Some posts were about London, other about my trips around Europe or about my home country Croatia. I’ve also blogged about my life and kids and every winter I share a bunch of festive posts. I don’t like to repeat myself too much so if you want to find out how it all started you can check my first blogiversary post here or you can read more about me here.

10 years is a long time in every sense possible. My life has changed a lot since I started blogging. Now, I’m a mum to an almost 6 year old daughter and an almost 8 year old son. I’ve navigated more or less successfully family life, job changes and blogging through the past ten years. I still love to blog about my travels even though blogosphere changed a lot. There used to be a real sense of community here and a lot of interaction among bloggers. I’m lucky to still have a bunch of really good blogging friends though. One has even become my real life friend. If you ask me how to run a successful blog, you might first ask yourself what successful means to you and what are your blogging goals. I’ve shared some blogging tips previously but trust me when I say that I don’t have all the answers. My blog is my hobby and my creative outlet not my way of earning money. However, I do manage to earn enough to pay for my domain name and my plan and an occasional cheap flight.

Let’s have a look at some of my blog stats:

I thought it’d be fun to look back and to see what posts were most successful so far:

10 best posts in the last ten years according to the number of views are below:

1st place goes to a post Visiting a chocolate factory which has over 5 000 views while 10th place is shared between two posts Christmas markets in Vienna (Dec 2015) and An Afternoon in Venlo, the Netherlands each with 1200 views (there’s a tie for 9th place too, that’s why there are actually 12 posts in the carousel above). I probably unintentionally hit SEO jackpot with some of these posts or perhaps there was low volume of that kind of content. I wish I knew the answers! In my opinion, some other posts deserve to be in top 10 instead of my basic Christmas markets mugs posts.

Readers and followers of my travel blog usually come from these ten countries: 1 US 2 UK 3 India 4 Croatia 5 Canada 6 Australia 7 Germany 8 Italy 9 Austria 10 France but I’m happy to say that there are people who are reading my posts from literally every corner of the world.

5 best posts in the last ten years according to the number of likes are below:

1st place goes to a post What has travel taught me? which I wrote for a travel linkup and that got a whooping number of 292 likes, while the 5th place is shared among two posts Family day out: Kamačnik, Croatia and 5 best FREE views in London that have 97 likes. Again, I haven’t got a clue why some better posts aren’t on this list instead of an obviously popular simple COVID post.

our family trip to Venice, August 2025

So, that’s that about the stats. Do you have any favorites that aren’t mentioned here?

What can you expect to read in the next year or so? Well, I still have to blog about Richmond and Ted Lasso and our family Budapest trip from December 2024. Then, I have trips from this year, Amsterdam and Delft from March and our recent family trip to Venice. I need to share my new Christmas tree travel ornaments and a new Christmas market mug as well. There are plenty of gorgeous new doors to share too.

My travel blog has changed a lot since its beginnings but I still want to share my travel stories (and other things) with you. I am grateful for all your comments, remarks and likes. Your continuous support means a lot to me. Thank you!

Cheers!

  1. Congrats on 10 years of blogging! Those are also some impressive stats! When I look at my blog’s statistics I sometimes also wonder why such and such posts are so popular, it really seems very random sometimes! Keep up with all your great blog posts!

  3. 10 years of blogging is a significant achievement, especially given that many new blogs fail quickly. Congratulations on such a wonderful milestone, dear Tanja, and here’s to many more years of blogging. Thanks for sharing, and have a wonderful day 🙂 Aiva xx
